The Mountain – Movie soundtrack

I’m excited to share my song “Evenflow” has been utilised for a new kiwi movie called “The Mountain”

Big thanks and shoutout to my Publisher, Songbroker. Jan and the team at Songbroker successfully presented my song for this classic NZ made film, which will be showing in cinemas NZ wide from March 28, 2024.

The Mountain is a heartfelt drama about three children on a mission to find healing under the watchful eye of Taranaki Maunga (Mountain) and discover friendship in the spirit of adventure.

The film is co-written by House and Tom Furniss. “I can’t wait for you to meet these beautiful kids and feel the strength of their connection with our mountain, Taranaki,” says Rachel House.

House is best known for her performances in Aotearoa New Zealand’s most successful films Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Boy, and Whale Rider and plays lead roles in Disney’s Moana and Pixar’s Soul. She currently appears in Netflix’s Heartbreak High and has upcoming roles in Next Goal Wins, Foundation and Time Bandits.

Behind the scenes, House has coached young cast on many film and television productions including Boy, Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Jojo Rabbit, and has a 15 year background as an award-winning theatre director and actor.

I performed my song ‘Evenflow’ live at a special screening Tuesday March 26th at a mostly packed out venue State Cinemas Nelson. Funds raised from the special tickets sales price has been donated to the Child Cancer Foundation.

Hummingbird recording studio news...

The ‘midnight oil’ has been burning in my recording studio (Hummingbird Recording Studio) and I have been loving working with some very talented locals and producing/recording/mixing their songs.

I’m continually upgrading tech in the studio, up skilling and lifting the bar while I work on my 4th Studio album alongside top UK Producer and good friend Dan Healy.

Mela is based in Tennyson Inlet (Marlborough Sounds) Her voice is super smooth and original.  She has a natural sense of musicality. The Nelson Tasman region is growing some great songwriters at the moment!

Kōkako is a local artist who has a stunning voice and writes great songs. I enjoyed producing this thought provoking song with her.

Challenging times call for challenging music. The debut single, ‘Dishonourable Conduct’ by Kōkako, peels back layers of racist colonisation to expose the raw nerve throbbing in Aotearoa/New Zealand today.

This contemporary folk song reminds us of our often forgotten history. While this work is a product of Kiwi artists, it is a global story of how “Great” nations are built and their barbaric histories sanitised and glorified.

Dishonourable Conduct is a dark satire that clearly frames the British colonisation of Aotearoa/New Zealand as treacherous and brutal. Kōkako’s haunting vocals confront present day political threats to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the self determination of Māori.

Thanks for reading! 22 years and still enjoying the process!
